Switching SD/microSD Cards

Find out how you can upgrade/switch to a new SD/microSD card.

Is your SD/microSD card full, dying, or in need of an upgrade?

Important info about SD/microSD card capacities

Before considering switching SD/microSD cards, it's important to know that the largest recommended capacity is 128GB. Now don't get us wrong, larger sizes may still work fine for you.

However, you may experience slowdowns in the HOME Menu and in other places when using your system. Therefore, think about the capacity before purchasing an SD/microSD card.

What you need

  • A device running either Windows, Linux or macOS to be able properly format the new SD/microSD card

  • A SD/microSD card reader/slot on said device

  • A new SD/microSD card to switch to

Alright, let's begin!

  1. Backing up the contents of your current SD/microSD card

    1. Plug your current SD/microSD card into your device's SD/microSD card reader/slot.

    2. Select and copy everything (every file and folder, do not skip anything) onto your device, preferably in a new folder for easy access.

    3. IMPORTANT: To avoid any potential data loss, safely unmount (eject) the SD/microSD card.

  2. Formatting your new SD/microSD card

IMPORTANT: Follow the linked instructions for your new SD/microSD card, NOT your old one!

  3. Restoring the files from your old SD/microSD card
